About the artwork

The canals are a symbol of Amsterdam and of great cultural and historical value. The Damrak is an avenue and canal at the centre, running between Amsterdam Centraal in the north and Dam Square in the south. Many of the houses nearby the canals are called „dancing houses“ because the soil was so swampy that they had to be built on stilts which caused them to tilt and sink slightly into the river over the years. Lovely monochrome architectural image of Amsterdam.
