About the artwork

This picture shows the interior of an impressive, abandoned hall with a vaulted ceiling and a skylight flooded with light. The architecture of the hall is large and expansive, with symmetrical arches that seem to stretch the building into the sky. Diffuse light falls through the glass roof, illuminating the room and focussing attention on the expanse of the hall. There are remnants of rubble, abandoned objects and traces of decay on the floor, reinforcing the impression that this place has been unused for a long time.

The walls of the hall are covered in graffiti, indicating that this lost place may be frequented by urban explorers or artists. The huge structure, once perhaps an industrial or public place, now radiates a melancholic silence. The emptiness of the space and the light that falls through the ceiling lend the picture an almost sacred atmosphere.

The symmetrical architecture and the size of the hall invite the viewer to reflect on the past of this place - a time when there was still life and activity here. Now it is just a deserted space in which nature and decay are gradually asserting their influence.
