The Ahrtal is the deeply carved valley in the Eifel region through which the river Ahr runs. Its source is in the Eifel mountains, in Blankenheim to be precise, at an altitude of 493 m above sea level. On its way from its source to the Rhine, the river Ahr takes in 25 tributaries. In Sinzig, south of Bonn, the river flows into the Rhine. The total length of the river is about 86 km.
The Ahr valley is thus a tributary valley of the Rhine. Touristically, it is a region mainly known for its wines and Mediterranean microclimate.
The Ahr valley produces a number of German red wines. You can therefore hike through the vineyard terraces of this red wine paradise in the Ahr valley and enjoy stunning views. You can drink surprisingly delicious, powerful and spicy red wines all over the Ahr valley and buy them for home.
