Albert Aublet (1851-1938) was a French painter who is best known for his orientalist and figurative depictions. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Claudius Jacquand and Jean-Léon Gérôme, one of the most important representatives of academic Orientalism. Aublet travelled to Istanbul in 1881, which had a lasting impact on his artistic direction. His works often depict scenes from the Middle East, portraits of women and everyday scenes in vivid colours and with great attention to detail. In addition to his work as a painter, he was also active as a teacher and became director of the École des Beaux-Arts in 1906.
