About ‘Alley in Kotor’ by Rene van Heerdt

We slept outside Kotor, but even before the city woke up I walked alone through the old town. With no plan, no route. Just following where the streets took me. That's how I ended up in an alley that I probably would have walked past during the day.

It was narrow, almost cramped. High stone walls on either side, a door here and there, a small window, a lantern still burning. Everything was silent. No voices, no coffee cups, no rolling suitcases. Just my footsteps and their soft echoing against the walls. It felt like the city had returned to itself for a moment.

The light fell just right. Still low, still gentle. Shadows ran diagonally across the stones, making lines and planes that disappear in the crowds during the day. The structure of the walls became visible, every unevenness told something. This was not a setting, this was a place with memory.

I stayed put, set up my camera and took my time. Not because I had to, but because I could. Nothing was happening in this alley and, precisely because of that, everything was happening. It felt intimate, almost personal, like I was seeing something not meant for everyone. That the sun came right in was a gift!

Later in the day, this alleyway would fill up. People would walk through it without looking. But this moment, this silence, lingered. It was Kotor at its fairest. Unadorned, raw and beautiful. That is exactly why I wanted to capture it.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
