Only a small rocky outcrop separates the municipality of Atrani from the well-known holiday resort of Amalfi. While tourism is booming there, pretty Atrani is less well known. Here you can still enjoy the original charm and typical everyday life of an Italian village. The whitewashed houses are arranged directly on the steep slope and are connected by a labyrinth of small alleyways and steps.
The Amalfi Coast, also known as the Costiera amalfitana or Costa d'Amalfi in Italian, is located on the west coast of Italy around 40 kilometres south of Naples. The Amalfi Coast is a good 40 kilometres of rugged and jagged coastline on the Italian Gulf of Salerno in the south of the Sorrento Peninsula in the Campania region. With its steep cliffs, rugged coastline with many small beaches and pastel-coloured fishing villages, the region is a popular holiday destination. The most famous towns on the Amalfi Coast are Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. The stretch of coast between Positano and Vietri sul Mare has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
