The first thing my wife and I did when we visited Orvieto, Italy, was get lost. We found a business owner and told him, "Siamo perduti," to which he laughed and assured us it was impossible to get lost, even though the streets seem confused and convoluted.
And he was right, sort of. The historical hilltop town of Orvieto, located in the Umbria region of the country, isn't huge, and it is surrounded by a wall, so as long as we were in the confines of that wall, we felt comfortable exploring the many charming and historic streets, confident that we would, indeed, make it back to our rental apartment.
