Fellsfjara, the black sand beach also known as Breiðamerkursandur, is a place where the Icelandic landscape shows its most magical side. Here, the ice chunks of the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon wash ashore, each unique in shape and shine.
During a sunset, shrouded in soft pastel shades, I discovered an unusual chunk of ice. It resembled a seal, lying gracefully and silently on the dark sand. The sky was a painting of peachy pink, lilac and soft blue, reflected in the glassy lines of the ice. The light enveloped the lump with an almost ethereal glow, as if it were a tiny fragment of eternity left on the beach.
Although tourists often call this beach "Diamond Beach", that name only evokes the glint of the ice. For Icelanders, Breiðamerkursandur is much more: a place full of stories about mighty glaciers, ancient volcanoes and the restless ocean. The ice chunk I found seemed a silent witness to this history, a reminder of nature's grandeur and transience.
With this photo, I want to take you to a moment of serene beauty, a place where time and space seem to converge in a soft colour palette. Let your imagination run wild and feel the magic of Iceland.
