About "Andalusian Chihuahua in Cádiz"

About the artwork

I came across this beautiful, playful, black and brown Chihuahua lady in the historic centre of the Andalusian city of Cádiz. On my last photo day trip on 1 September 2025, I snapped her in the late afternoon hours with my NIKON D800 camera (lens: NIKKOR 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8). A cute, wonderful animal with its adorable long ears will remain in my memory. Chihuahuas seem to be all the rage in Cádiz at the moment.

Cádiz is one of the most beautiful cities on the Costa de La Luz. The harbour city is completely surrounded by water and is considered to be the oldest inhabited city in Western Europe. Its authentic character and similarities to Cuba's capital make Cádiz a unique holiday destination.

With around 120,000 inhabitants, Cádiz is one of the larger cities, but rather small compared to Seville or Malaga. However, due to its fantastic location on a comparatively small headland, the city has a special feature: an extremely high population density. More than 10,000 people live here per square kilometre, more than twice as many as in Seville, which is also densely populated. It is also relatively certain that Cádiz is one of the oldest cities in Europe, having been founded by the Phoenicians in 1,104 BC. Although it is a little off the beaten track in Andalusia, more than an hour from Seville and more than two hours by car from Málaga, a visit to Cádiz is not to be missed.

A walk through the city centre and along the Atlantic coast reveals that Cádiz has an impressive number of attractions. Especially in the evening, before the sun sinks into the sea, you should spend some time on the seafront promenade. Just to see the golden dome of the cathedral glow even more golden in the last rays.
