The El Pópulo neighbourhood adjoins La Viña to the east and is also part of the old town. Apart from the typical regional restaurants, which often occupy the streets with their seats, there are many historic buildings to admire here.
The thick stone gates were the point at which Christopher Columbus left the European continent for the second time in 1493. The Cathedral of Cádiz and the Roman theatre also date from even earlier centuries, giving this part of the city an unmistakable flair.
As lively as the alleyways are, you can find a quiet spot here amidst the ancient buildings.
