In the middle of Reims, in Place Drouet d'Erlon stands the magnificent Subé fountain. Inaugurated in 1906 and 17 metres high with the Génie de la Gloire on top.
Architect André Narjoux designed the fountain with statues on the four corners symbolising the region's four rivers: the Marne, Vesle, Suippe and Aisne.
The angel on top is seen as a symbol of peace and victory. If you look closely, you can see that she is holding a laurel wreath in her right hand; a symbol of triumph.
On the day I took this picture, the sky was bright blue, making for a nice contrast, and the sunlight shone beautifully on the angel on this warm day in August 2022.
The light shines brilliantly not only on the left wing, but also on the part of the pedestal on which her right foot is standing.
The statue is made of gilded bronze.
