Apollo 8 was the first American manned rocket that flew around the Earth, and landed safely back on Earth on december 28 1968. A big step towards the first man on the moon. The three astronauts aboard, Borman, Lovell and Anders, obviously were invited at the White House. And on January 14th 1969 there was a festive reception at the Hilton Hotel in Chicago.
