It is one of the most beautiful coasts in France: the Côte d'Albâtre in Normandy. Between Ault in the north-east and the Seine estuary near Le Havre, the limestone plateau of the Pays de Caux on the Alabaster Coast, with its cliffs up to 110 metres high, breaks off like chalk into the English Channel. It begins in the north at Ault, a small coastal village that can be seen in the photo. It still looks rather sleepy. The houses show patina, many shops are closed. But the new furniture on the promenade and the first trendy shops, such as Atelier-Boutigue Effet Mer, are evidence of this: Ault is also experiencing an upturn in tourism.
