Autumn Forest: An Abstraction Featuring Red Fern

by Dirk Wüstenhagen

The picture shows a forest with towering trees and dense, bright red undergrowth. The trees are heavily blurred vertically, creating the impression of movement or a film. Their trunks are light in colour and slender, rising like columns into the upper part of the picture. The ground is covered with a thick layer of ferns that glow with an intense red. This red undergrowth forms a stark contrast to the light-coloured tree trunks and extends deep into the forest.
The overall aesthetic of the image is characterised by a grunge-like texture and a slightly grainy appearance, reminiscent of old photographs or paper. The colours are muted, except for the vibrant red that dominates the scene and lends it a dramatic and almost surreal atmosphere.
The composition is vertically oriented, with an abundance of lines created by the tree trunks that draw the eye upwards. There are no visible people or animals, which makes the scene seem lonely and mysterious.
The lighting appears diffuse, and there are signs of vignetting, particularly in the top left-hand corner, where a yellowish-golden glow can be seen. The interplay of light and shadow is subtle yet present, contributing to the overall richness and depth of the image. The image possesses a strong artistic and atmospheric quality, reminiscent of a dream or a vision.
