The barn owl is an inhabitant of (semi-)open landscapes, in our case mostly farmland. It likes to settle in buildings such as barns or church towers. There it seeks quiet, dark hiding places as daytime roosting and nesting sites. Barn owls lead a reclusive life and usually only become active after dark to hunt in the open field for field mice in particular. These sit to lurk at the ground to see if some edible thing dribbles past.
