You don’t have to be religious to feel something shift when you stand under this dome. The ceiling of the Basilica di Superga hits differently. It's not just the precision of the geometry or the scale that makes you pause—it’s how the design draws your attention inward and upward at the same time. The octagonal pattern is perfectly aligned and almost hypnotic, like a visual chant. The soft pastel tones—pale golds, cream, stone blue—feel timeless and calm, while the light pouring in from the high windows creates this subtle interplay of shadow and glow. Architecturally, it’s a masterclass in balance: the columns below ground the structure, but the dome above lifts it all with an airy grace. Photographing it from directly below flattens the space in a fascinating way, turning it into something abstract yet still deeply rooted in craft and belief. This isn’t just a ceiling. It’s a quiet, symmetrical meditation.
