The name Bierkade comes from the imported beer that was landed here. On this quay, excise duty was also levied on the same beer in the Accijnstoren(left). The tower was built in 1622 and moved in 1924 to widen the street. You can see the reflection in the Nood-Hollands canal that runs alongside the beer quay.
