The Victory Column on the Großer Stern in the Großer Tiergarten is one of Berlin's most important sights and Germany's most significant national monuments.
The 67-metre-high gilded column with viewing platform, commemorates the victory in the German-Danish War. Built between 1864 and 1873 by Heinrich Strack on Königsplatz to commemorate the Wars of Unification, it was moved to its present location between 1938 and 1939, together with the monuments to Bismarck, Roon and Moltke. The crowning Victoria by Friedrich Drake is popularly known in Berlin as the "Goldelse".
