A group of birches catches the first rays of the sun in the Branch Heights area. The trunks almost glow a little orange through the soft skimming light. On this chilly winter morning, it is minus eight degrees. The water is frozen, the grasses and heather are frosted. Further away in the background, a lookout hill can be seen on the left. From this hill you have a great view over much of this nature reserve. The area is managed by Het Drentse Landschap.
Takkenhoogte is part of the Reestdal, a nature reserve on the border of the Dutch provinces of Overijssel and Drenthe.
