Texel became an island by the All Saints flood of 1170.
As a result of the reclamations and dehydrations, the country had settled in the course of time and had become lower. A temporary warming of the climate caused larger weather extremes and made the settling country vulnerable. The Noord-Holland landscape was radically changed due to the catastrophic flood, in which thousands of people died. During this flood, the islands of Wieringen, which were later reclaimed, and Vlieland and the current Marsdiep as sea current and the current Wadden Sea and the former Zuiderzee were formed.
