Located in south-eastern France, the Gorges du Verdon is one of the largest and most impressive gorges in Europe. This spectacular gorge cuts through the limestone landscape of Provence, with cliffs rising up to 700 metres high. The Verdon River, which has carved the gorge over the millennia, flows at the bottom and is a striking turquoise colour, providing a stunning contrast to the grey and white cliffs.
One of the most striking features of the Gorges du Verdon is the incredibly clear and vibrant turquoise colour of the Verdon River water. This unique colour is caused by the presence of minerals and micro-organisms in the water, and the contrast with the surrounding rocks makes the view truly spectacular.
