The Pont de 25 Abril is a landmark of Lisbon. It towers over the Tagus River and connects the suburbs on one side with Lisbon's old town on the other. The red pillars and cables carry the road and railway line. Its architecture is reminiscent of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. In this picture, you can see how fog, from the interior towards the city, continues to move under the bridge towards the sea. The size and beauty of this bridge construction is given a special accent and its monumental effect is emphasised. The picture was taken below the statue Christo Rei, from where one can enjoy this view of Lisbon's old town. The special thing about this picture is that it was taken on the day of the Lisbon Marathon in 2023. The bridge forms the first stage of the race and therefore, at this moment immediately before the start, no car can be seen on the bridge, which is otherwise an important traffic artery between the surrounding countryside and the country's capital.
