For me, one of the most iconic light installations during the Bright Festival was surely the video mapping on St Michael and St Goedele Cathedral in the centre of Brussels. The harmonious interplay between light art, historical architecture and theatrical music created a sacred moment.
To make this feeling visible in the photo, I used a zoom burst. This is an effect obtained by zooming the zoom lens in or out while taking a picture with a slow shutter speed. This creates beams of light that are projected out of the centre of the photo. If you look closely, you can still see some faint details of the cathedral in the centre of the photo, which bursts into an explosion of light, as it were. For me, it perfectly captures how I felt at that moment.
