Admire the majestic Cathedral of Our Lady of Antwerp, captured from the Grote Markt. This centuries-old cathedral is steeped in history and has undergone numerous restorations over the years to preserve its splendour. Not only a famous religious stronghold, but also a symbol of Antwerp's rich cultural heritage and historical identity.
In the foreground is the iconic Brabofountain, a tribute to the legendary Silvius Brabo, who, according to tradition, cut off the hand of the giant Druon Antigoon and threw it into the Scheldt. This as punishment for his imposition of tolls on ships wishing to navigate the river.
This enchanting photo, taken on a rainy day, captures the dark clouds that create a mysterious atmosphere around the cathedral. The shimmering cobblestones reflect the night light. This photo is a wonderful complement to the photo of the Grand Place previously in my collection.
