About ‘Bust portrait of a samurai, Kunisada’
A bust portrait of actor Ichikawa Danjûrô VII (1791-1859) in the role of samurai Iga no Jutarô with a raised sword. Scene from the Yama mata yama hana no yamagatsu play, staged in 1823 at the Ichimura theater in Edo. With three poems, including one from the actor himself: "It fills me with great joy when I look at the sky and see a kite with the Mimasu weapon." The Mimasu weapon is the family sign of the Ichikawa family.
