A narrow stream of water, running between the rocks at Wadi Bani Khalid after a long journey through the Hadjar Mountains in Oman. A riverbed , called wadi, as there are more in Oman.
Rainwater from the mountains beyond flows down and collects in streams towards the sea. The road from the mountains is often through a barren, unfriendly looking landscape. A little further on, the stream spreads out over a wide river bed, lined with reeds and palm trees.
The path of the water through the rocks has been carved by the centuries-long flow of water. The wadi is filled with water or falls dry depending on the season and rainfall.
The water that makes life possible and allows plants to grow is in great contrast to the dryness of the bleached out rocks where almost nothing grows. Where the rocks and the warm clear blue sky are reflected in the gently flowing water.
