About "Chairs at the edge of the day"

by Stille Vertelling

About the artwork

Along the edge of a wooden terrace stand tall chairs, half in the sand, half in the shade. Their metallic lines stand out sharply against the soft colours of the evening sky. The sunlight just barely touches the water in the distance, which slowly turns from gold to lilac.

The chairs seem to be waiting. Perhaps for the first guests of the evening, perhaps for the return of a conversation that sounded here earlier. Underfoot imprints in the sand, silent traces of who sat and watched and laughed here.

Between the green of agave leaves and the wood of the structure, an interplay of shapes and materials emerges. The metal shines subtly, the cushions show frays that tell something about use and time.

This sculpture is not a slick beach scene. It is raw and real. A moment in which place, light and memory find each other. For those who love images in which you can not only see but also feel what preceded it and what might come next.
