About "Chateau Noisy, a ruined castle"

by Truus Nijland

About the artwork

Chateau Noisy was built in 1866 and designed by English architect Milner.
During the French Revolution, the Liedekerke-Beaufort family left the old castle to live in a nearby farmhouse. After the Revolution, in 1886 the family commissioned the English architect Milner to design a castle right next to this farm as a summer residence. Until World War II, the castle remained occupied by the family. After World War II, the castle was used by the SNCB as an orphanage and from 1970 it was used for outdoor sports activities for children. Since 1991, the castle has been empty.

And now.... there is nothing at all left of this beautiful castle. It has been razed to the ground, such a shame!
