Cheerful Watercolour Flowers

by Christian Ovís

‘Cheerful Watercolour Flowers’ depicts two large red flowers on long, slender stems. The top flower spreads its pointed petals wide; the bottom one is rounder and fills the right-hand half of the centre. Dark flower centres with small white and yellow dots catch the eye. At the top left is a closed bud. Bright red, orange and coral pink give the flowers a warm appearance.

The painting has a light background with loose splashes of pink, yellow and grey-purple. The stems rise almost straight upwards and disappear at the bottom amongst soft shadows. Dark lines outline parts of the petals, whilst other edges fade away. This contrast gives the flowers volume without the need for a detailed background. A few red dots on the right connect the distinct flower shapes with the open background. The large open spaces keep the composition clear and uncluttered.

This red floral wall decoration can provide a warm accent in a living room, dining room or hall. The bold red stands out beautifully against cream, wood and neutral fabrics. A small red or pink detail in the décor can tie the design into the room. From a distance, the two flowers are clearly recognisable; up close, the light dots in the centres of the flowers and the soft colour transitions catch the eye.
