The subway in Chicago runs both above and below ground. The so-called L-train (elevated train) has 8 different subway lines that call at 144 stations in the city. The metro lines are indicated with different colours, of which the Blue Line (between the city center and O'Hare airport) and the Red Line (north-south line) run 24 hours a day all year round. The 'L' is therefore a cheap, fast and efficient way to travel in Chicago.
