The Grube is a regulated city canal in Wismar in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. On official maps it is labelled Mühlenbach. In the city centre, the Grube is divided into the sections Mühlengrube, Frische Grube and Runde Grube, following the direction of flow. The streets running parallel to the watercourse are named after the sections. The watercourse overcomes a height difference of four metres from the mill pond to the mouth. The total length is around two kilometres, with 670 metres running through the city centre. The Grube was a stream flowing in a depression from the mill pond to the harbour, which was regulated as early as the 13th century, dammed for the operation of mills and made navigable. Barges transported goods such as grain, salt and herrings here. The watercourse was also used for washing laundry and supplying water.
In the photograph, the neighbouring houses are reflected in the very calmly flowing water.
