About the artwork

The White House is a well-known Rotterdam skyscraper, one of the first of its kind. Among modern architecture, it holds its own stately. She for it is a Jugendstil / art nouveau gem in the city centre.
The photo was taken from the south side of the Jan Kuiten Bridge which you can just see in the picture. It was a bright day with blue sky and light clouds. The gable clock indicates that it has just been 11.30pm. It is a winter day, the trees are still bare and leafless.

It was designed by architect Willem Molenbroek in the late 19th century. The building is a national monument that is still in use, making it a real landmark in Rotterdam's city centre. The spectacular white facade has many decorations such as statues around the theme of industry and trade and art nouveau mosaics with plant motifs in the upper windows. On the towers, a kind of piano keys pattern seems to have been chosen. On the roof the flags of the city of Rotterdam with the colours green and white.

The old port in Rotterdam is right in the centre near Blaak train station. You can see this in the stickers on the lamppost. In the background, you can just make out the famous cube houses. And the upper part of the pencil. A dynamic place with lots to see, old and new.
