Photographing droplets colliding is done with a special tube filled with liquid. Attached to the tube is a small device that releases drops and can be set to milliseconds. This allows you to release two drops right after each other. The first drop falls into a container of liquid and rises again, while the second drop follows close behind and thus collides with the returning drop. This creates beautiful formations, sometimes with umbrella-like shapes. The nice thing is that you never know beforehand exactly what the result will be. The liquid consists of water, mixed with some milk and food colouring
