Taking fun, unusual or abstract photos often doesn't require much. As far as I am concerned, objects or subjects to photograph are always within reach: at home or in its immediate surroundings. Those objects or subjects are sometimes ordinary utensils and sometimes things that most people consider rubbish or junk. Each object has its own colour, a certain shape, a nice texture or a nice pattern. All these things are useful for photography and I like to then combine several things from these into one artwork.
Such is the case with this colourful artwork. The two dice are made of translucent plastic and here they are also mirrored in a shiny surface. I combined the photo of the dice with a photo of a shiny and glittering piece of waste material. Illuminating all this nicely created a sparkling image with beautiful balls of light (bokeh). When you look at these bokeh spheres up close, you see all the colours of the rainbow!
As for the colours, the combination of the orange dice is nicely balanced with the dark purple background.
This artwork also has symbolism in it: a dice symbolises daring to take chances and take a gamble. But they also symbolise your fate in life and also coincidence: how the dice falls determines your path and the speed with which you set off.
I see making art as a creative process.
The starting point of this process for me is always a photo or a painting of my own. Every work of art on this site is therefore based on a self-made photo or painting.
I find my sources of inspiration in everything around me...
