About the artwork
A beautiful, bright orange-coloured, agate is shown in this picture.
The mineral agate is a type of quartz with beautiful lines and bands in the rock. Agates are probably formed under high pressure, for example in volcanoes.
It is always a surprise when such an agate stone is cut. On the outside, the stone looks like a normal boulder, but it is only on the inside that the beautiful patterns and colours become visible. The best part, of course, is when there is also a cavity in the stone: people then call this hollow stone a geode.
The cavity is often lined with beautifully glittering crystals.
What is special about such a geode is that it is probably very old. It is a stone many years old, perhaps once found on the rim of a volcano or perhaps in the crater of the volcano itself.
This disc of agate geode is illuminated from behind by the sun. The sunlight makes the beautiful lines and structures even more visible, creating a stunning combination of light and shadow. The crystals in the cavity of the stone sparkle in the sunlight.
The background, with a transition colour from dark green to almost black, perfectly complements this stone.
