Powerful silhouette of a dead tree that seems to dance wildly under the stars in the night. It will dance, until it falls down. As far as I'm concerned, there is certainly reason to dance. For in the background you can see the magical light of rare luminous night clouds. What a fantastic phenomenon that is.
The ground fog rises and makes the underside of the tree trunk visible. This enhances the mystical nature of the scene.
The striking tree has been given its own name in Drenthe. It is the Gasterboom. The tree stands in the Drentse-Aa area, between the villages Gasteren and Loon.
Luminous night clouds are clouds at high altitude. They are about 80 kilometers high. Therefore, in the middle of the night they can still be shined on by the sun and reflect light to the earth. They are rare and are sometimes observed in summer above the northern horizon.
