A quiet morning on the Kampina near Boxtel. I was just in time to photograph the sun exactly behind this dead tree. The sky turned a soft orange, while the flowering heather and wet grassland were still hidden under a thin layer of fog. Everything was quiet, all you could hear was the soft tapping of drops falling from the grass.
The tree, leafless but full of character, stood firmly in the landscape and caught the light just right. The rays broke through the branches, adding depth to the composition. In the foreground you can see the first blooms of the heather, still covered in dew. The combination of heather, mist and sunlight created exactly the kind of atmosphere I was hoping for.
The Kampina is a nature reserve full of contrasts: open heathlands, damp grasslands and jagged trees. Especially in August, when the heather blooms, this area is one of my favourite places to photograph.
