Graffiti art is temporary and subject to the elements. I often visit places with kilometres of graffiti walls.
This picture was taken in the popular resort town of Lloret de Mar. A canal runs through the town, which is usually dry and where artists are allowed to paint.
For my photographic work, I am particularly fascinated by graffiti in disrepair.
The humidity of the canal and the bright sun in the summer months have a great impact on the layers of paint.
The texture of peeling paint on a concrete background can be beautiful.
From a small fragment of the original work, a new work of art is created that must contain a number of features.
Decorative : I usually imagine the work in a modern or minimalist interior. Decay and new are opposites but also go very well together. It must be strong enough to raise the wall and, by extension, the living space to a higher level.
Minimalist : I focus very strongly on the essentials, in terms of shape, colour, texture. Anything unnecessary is left out.
Combinable with my other works : is of course very important when building an exhibition. I also like to see my work in a diptych or triptych on the wall in a living room.
A work with a story : In my recent work, this is mainly a subject in transformation. I capture the traces of its history.
