The Over- and Neder-Slingeland pumping station in Giessenburg was originally a steam scoop wheel pumping station, built in 1900 to replace the Kademolen of the Nederslingeland polder that had burned down shortly before. Since 1945, the scoop wheel was driven by a diesel engine. In 1980 it was taken out of operation due to the switch to fully automatic pumping. Meanwhile, the pumping station, owned by the Regional Pumping Station Foundation (RGS) Alblasserwaard and Vijfheerenlanden, was refurbished by volunteers in 2014 and 2015 and is to a limited extent millable again. From May through October, it is "run day" on every second Saturday of the month. The photo was taken during the summer season.
