Zwijndrecht is located in the south of South Holland, on the river island of IJsselmonde, which is surrounded by the Noord and the Nieuwe and Oude Maas rivers. More specifically, the village lies at the confluence of the Oude Maas, the Noord and the Beneden-Merwede. To the northwest of Zwijndrecht, separated by the Waaltje, lies the municipality of Barendrecht. This river arm also forms the physical border with Ridderkerk, but the latter's territory also includes part of the land on the Zwijndrecht side of the water. The last neighbouring municipality on IJsselmonde is Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, which is very close to Zwijndrecht. Across the river Noord lies Papendrecht and the Oude Maas separates Zwijndrecht from Dordrecht. Also separated by the Oude Maas, to the southwest of Zwijndrecht is the municipality of Binnenmaas.
