Some places on earth leave you completely still for a moment. This image shows the rugged coast at Drangarnir, an iconic rock formation in the Faroe Islands. What immediately struck me about this place is the feeling of ultimate freedom and being small in a grand landscape. You see not only nature here, but also adventure and a touch of mystery - enhanced by the dramatic cloud skies that are constantly changing.
This photo was created while walking along a narrow path, with the wind howling around your ears and the smell of sea salt in the air. I wanted to capture the strength and ruggedness of this coast, focusing on the imposing rocks, the clear water and the play of light and shadow. The lone hiker on the cliff on the right underlines the contrast between man and nature, and makes the image even more exciting.
