About the artwork
A minimalist but powerful image bathed in intense red tones. The central, glistening ball of the sun appears extremely close and is surrounded by a dense, fiery red haze. The surroundings are almost monochrome, apart from the minimal texture of the cloud cover at the lower edge, which draws full concentration to the glow of the sky. Two bright lights, possibly reflections or other celestial bodies, are discreetly embedded in the haze.
The inspiration was the raw, unfiltered power and intensity of the morning sun, observed at an altitude where the atmosphere is thinner. It is a depiction of pure, elemental fire. The painting conveys a very warm, intense and energetic atmosphere. It is about the pure power of colour and light; a message of strength and focus.
The appeal of this work lies in its almost complete abstraction and the dominance of the colour red. Focussing on the central light source creates a meditative, almost hypnotic effect.
