In the Cathar country of the French département of Ariège, very close to Montségur and its Réserve naturelle régionale du massif de Saint-Barthélemy, the world was enchanted on a January afternoon and the finest frost had conquered and mystically transformed nature in the Lasset valley. And that's exactly where I stopped on the D9, which leads on to Belestà, and photographed this marvellous world. I took this photo of a rotten trunk full of moss against the backdrop of the rushing stream.
