The photo shows the Erasmus Bridge captured in black and white from a special perspective. The photo was taken during the evening hours from the middle of the bridge towards Kop van Zuid. The widely known shape of this pylon is shown here, together with the 40 steel cables that carry the bridge. The Maastoren on Kop van Zuid and the Courthouse are still nicely in view here. The pylon's shape is reminiscent of a swan, which is why the bridge was popularly named "the swan". Night photography, or evening photography has the advantage that there are often lights to be seen, which benefit the architecture when it is nicely lit. Here on the Erasmus Bridge, this is certainly the case, with beautiful lighting achieved with spotlights in the middle of the Erasmus Bridge. The bridge establishes a connection between the two banks of the Maas and between Rotterdam city centre and Kop van Zuid.
