About ‘Faro de Fuencaliente (La Palma)’ by Niko Kersting

Ganz im Süden der Kanareninsel La Palma, direkt neben dem Leuchtturm „Faro de Fuencaliente“ in malerischer Lage befindet sich die letzte aktive Saline der Kanarischen Inseln. Das Salz wird dort ausschließlich in traditioneller Handarbeit gewonnen. In den Salzpfannen werden ausschließlich traditionelle Werkzeuge wie Siebe, Schaufeln, Rechen und Schubkarren verwendet. Im Jahr 1971 zerstörte der Ausbruch des Vulkans Teneguía, der knapp über der Saline liegt und dessen Lavaströme in der Nähe des benachbarten Leuchtturms ins Meer flossen, das Gebiet fast vollständig. Glücklicherweise kam einer der Lavaströme etwa 200 m von der Saline entfernt zum Stillstand.
