At the end of 2018 I travelled to Chernobyl, Ukraine. There I made a series about the deserted city of Pripyat, once Russia's pride, a new city with all modern facilities. In 1986 this city came to an abrupt end with the explosion of nuclear reactor number 4. A catastrophe followed and everyone was evacuated. The remains of this city are still there. By using infrared light I wanted to emphasize the nature that is taking over this empty city. Living organisms emit infrared light and trees, mosses and plants take on a red hue. I use the wavelength of 550namometers to add accents and shift colors like the old kodak aerochrome infrared film did. In this way reality becomes more abstract and nature gets more attention. After this journey I continued this technique in several series. Look and marvel at the world in infrared!
