It is festa time in Citta della Pieve in late summer. The town flags hang proudly along the streets as part of the Palio dei Terzi an annual festival that echoes those that took place in medieval times. People are sitting having drinks under umbrellas and others are standing talking about their day. The light shines through the colour flags that sit proudly in their holders on the walls of the town.
Citta della Pieve is in the Province of Perugia in Umbria and is a medieval walled hill town
Citta della Pieve is famous for its red bricks, made locally. The duomo, or cathedral, seen to the left of this image of the central square in Citta della Pieve played a vital part in the development of the town as the town grew around it. 'Pieve' means baptismal church. The duomo has undergone extensive restorations and alterations over the years. Dominating the square is the Torre del Pubblico, a tower 38 metres high.
