Once the building was completed, many New Yorkers believed it would collapse due to the airflows past the building that were created by its sharp triangular shape. The building did not collapse, but another phenomenon arose. The women's skirts blew up through the 'fall winds' along the sides of the building. The place became notorious for peeking men, and therefore more police officers were deployed on the streets around the building.
