About the artwork

The Munnikenmolen in Leiderdorp is a historic polder mill in the province of South Holland. Built in 1890, this mill played a crucial role in the water control of the Munnikenpolder.

The Munnikenmolen is a so-called round stone ground-sailer. This means that the mill is built on a stone base and the sails of the mill reach down to the ground, so they can be operated from the ground.

The mill is a polder mill, designed to pump water from the polder and keep the land dry. Originally, the Munnikenmolen pumped excess water from the polder to the Oude Rijn river. This was essential for farming in the area, as dry land was needed for agricultural activities.

The current Munnikenmolen replaced an earlier mill on the same site that was destroyed by fire in 1889. The present 1890 structure remained in active use to drain the polder well into the 20th century.

Nowadays, the Munnikenmolen is owned by a mill foundation that ensures its preservation and maintenance. Although the original polder pumping station has now been taken over by more modern pumping stations, the mill can still function. On special occasions or demonstrations, the mill is still operated.

The Munnikenmolen in Leiderdorp is a wonderful example of the traditional Dutch water mills that played a vital role in controlling the water level in the polder landscape.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
