About the artwork

The first Thunderbird was introduced in 1957 and sold for $5,166. It was an innovative design that was a callback to pre-war roadster days. It had a V8 engine with a 292 cubic inch displacement and twin exhaust pipes that exited through twin bumper guards. The name of the car was still spelled in cursive, but the exterior changed from previous iterations to reflect the model's time.

The 1957 Thunderbird was powered by a desirable 312 cubic inch V8 engine that producing 245 horsepower. It had an automatic transmission and a Town & Country radio. It also had power windows and steering. It was available with chrome wire wheels and wide whitewall tires. The exterior and interior of the car were finished in black, with a black leather interior. The iconic porthole hardtop was removed and replaced with a modern vinyl soft top.

The new design was a success and sold well. The 1958 model had the rear seat, which was a big selling point at the time. The car sold more than 3,000 units. The second-generation Thunderbird was redesigned for 1958 with a new engine. It featured a rear seat and an updated front fascia. The T-Bird was marketed by Lincoln-Mercury as the Continental Mark III and later, the Continental Mark IV.
